Transmission and Distribution
There are three components to electrical supply- generation, transmission and distribution. With energy choice you can choose to purchase your energy from a variety of Retail Energy Provider (a company other than your local utility) to best match your business needs. However, your energy will still be delivered through your local utility.
Your local utility is responsible for the transmission and distribution of the energy you purchase. They are responsible for the poles, pipes and wires (infrastructure) required to bring energy to your business and the meters.
Generation companies provide energy to Retail Energy Providers who then work with your company to provide the energy products that meet your needs. This energy can be generated from a variety of sources including coal, natural gas, hydro electric, wind, nuclear, solar and more.
As a customer with energy choice you have the option to purchase your energy in a manner that best fits your operations, budget and environmental goals. The Retail Energy Provider you choose can offer you a customized plan to help you meet those goals.
Choosing a Retail Energy Provider will not reduce the reliability of your current transmission and distribution, as this level of service is regulated by the Public Utility/Service Commission.
